3 Ways to Enjoy Your Outdoor Space This Winter

There are two types of people in this world: those who hibernate during the winter and those who go out and enjoy it. If you fall into the latter group, then this blog post is for you. There are plenty of ways to enjoy your outdoor space during this time of year. There’s no use in having an amazing deck, patio or yard if you can’t enjoy it 365 days a year! Here’s how you can get the most out of your outdoor living space this winter.

  1. Investing in good outdoor lighting. The evenings get darker much earlier in the wintertime. From lanterns to sconces, good lighting makes it easier to enjoy your porch, deck, patio and your entire yard. It’s also a good safety feature to prevent slips and falls when it’s dark.
  2. Decorate. Just like you take time to make your home interiors look beautiful, the same concept goes for outside. Many items like rugs, furniture, cushions, table cloths, candles and blankets are made for outdoor use.
  3. Get a heater. Even though winter is still in full swing, you’re sure to start finding deals on outdoor heaters as retailers begin to bring in their spring collections. You can also opt for a custom built fireplace or fire pit.

Make Your Outdoor Space Cozy for Winter

Just because it’s still cold outside doesn’t mean you have to wait until spring to enjoy it. Here are a few ways you can create an amazing winter outdoor living space:

  • You’re sure to find deals on fire pits and fireplaces as winter gradually comes to an end. This is perfect for entertaining family and friends without having to be crammed into the kitchen or living room. Click here to read more about heating your patio.
  • Don’t forget to decorate outside just like you would inside. Large planters, table cloths, outdoor rugs, oversized blankets and candles will make it look like a cozy room in no time.
  • Since it gets darker earlier during the winter, good lighting for your outdoor space is key. Many lighting systems can been set to automatically dim during the day and brighter as it gets darker outside.

Winterize Your Deck this Fall

With the arrival of fall you need to start thinking about how to prepare the exterior of your home for the cold winter months. During the next couple of weeks we are going to help you get your home winter ready starting with your deck.

Chances are the summer heat had an effect on our deck. You’ll need to clean, repair and protect the wood on your deck before the upcoming winter months. Make sure you clean your deck and remove all dirt. Check to see if any of the wood is warped or damaged and make sure all nails are correctly in place. You can use a deck cleaner for a thorough cleaning to remove any mildew or stains.

If you are considering staining or sealing your deck now is the time to do so, just wait at least 24 hours after cleaning to apply the stain. Make sure you check the color of the stain before you use it on your entire deck. Apply the stain evenly and we recommend staining the rails before the floor for easier clean up. And try and avoid staining or sealing your deck before it rains.
